Programme Criteria 

Dominica Save The Children Fund will initiate programmes in communities where the needs of children are greatest, and where the community displays a readiness and willingness to assume responsibility for development work in accordance with the principles of community development. There must be strategic links between the various project activities operating in any one locality. Domnik Save will discourage projects which merely respond to the practical needs of children/people, but are not integrately linked with any long term development strategy.

Our organization programme consist of a three broad areas: 1) Community Development, 2) Child Development and Sponsorship and 3) Advocacy and Youth Development. 

 Advocacy and Youth Development 

• Leadership skills.
• Building self esteem
• Civics
• Education - No your country and History
• Formation of youth group
• Summer programes run by the youth group Youth Saving Youth. 

Child Development Programmes

These programmes will take the form of :-

 a) Day Care and Pare-School services and will encourage parent and community participation in the organization and management as far as possible

 b) Child development training which will provide early childhood education for day-care and pre-school staff at principally three level's - Nursery Assistant, Nursery Supervisors and Administration and management of Day-Care and Pre-School Centres.

 c)  Parent education which will provide non-formal training in Child Cares and Development for parents and other related knowledge and skills.

 d)  Advocacy work on own and in collaboration with other agencies in  advancing the cause of children and providing information to the public highlighting issuefs affecting children , pointing out inadequacies in social legislation, institutions and services available to childrsen etc. 

Community Development

The community development approach will inform the major strategies that the agency uses to attend to the interests and needs of the children and young persons.

The emphasis here will be on strengthening the capabilities of communities to advance the cause of the poor in the community and the interests of children .

It will involve the following:-

 a)   Organizational and Development building and strengthening community organizations.

 b)  Community education programmes designed to provide community members with specific knowledge and to heighten their understanding and awareness of development issues.

 c)  Community projects socio educational and economic activities geared towards ;-

                            1. Providing community services or services to children

                            2. providing income and employment for community members and

                            3. personal development and development of literacy, vocational  and technical skills.

 d)  General community activities as a means of enlisting support and participation of the wider community in the community development process.

Child Sponsorship

This programme provides financial assistance and counselling support to students at Secondary, Primary and Pre-School. Where necessary, work will be done with the family from which the students come to ensure that maximum benefits is gained from the assistance offerred.
